(note: pic is backstage of our show @ dancevalley festival, holland with faya dancers from rotterdam. i was in love with those zebra pants and am now a proud owner of a pair. it's all about vision, my friends!)
gave my new studio/office a touch of super super pink paint yesterday. Okay, it wasn't a touch, it was more like a wholesome barbie vomit. Except it's awesome. And now that the space no longer makes me feel like i'm in a mental institute, I can begin to think clearly. Hurrah!
i'm in the midst of decorating my new studio/office and going through your things always get you stumbling upon, well, old things. Found pictures from when my friend (joyce, have you still got your pics?) and I participated in a 'model for life/search for the face of Suki' thing while we were studying in oz - the only 2 there who weren't white, blue-eyed and talking strange. Dressing up to be seen by old people and their little kids running around is always fun. Almost half the college came to support us - and yup, i'm exaggerating.
This was in June 2004 @ the Ballina RSL Club. Good times! :)
i got me a new baby turtle today and named her beyonce. I was planning on getting myself a boy but found her staring at me when i got in the shop and picked her out anyway. She is super tiny, about an inch and a half big with her head out. The last 2 terrapins my sis and i had were 'elvis' and 'girlfriend' - both died a mysterious death. Tragic. and no i don't recall feeding them any illegal substances. And then, the 2 other terrapins we had before that grew so huge we released them at a lake nearby which i think was nice; hopefully they're still there enjoying old age. This hopefully will happen for beyonce - and not an unfortunate burial next to my mom's plants behind the house next to elvis and his other half.

I thought i'd be artistic today and play around with M.I.A.'s pic i found on an old mixmag - where she was named one of 2008's best not surprisingly. And I must be a lousy fan, as i only just found out about her record label N.E.E.T. which has signed Rye Rye and Afrikan Boy. Good to know becoming a mom doesn't stop some gals from being awesome - provided you already are.
I'm going to guess it must be the gloomy weather - meet yet another Swedish artist Cassandra Rhodin who sketches these gorgeous fashion illustrations. She also seems a little obsessed with animal prints, I bet we'd make good friends. Except the animals she portray can be disturbingly... perverted.
On facebook today, DJ Low of bionic dj academy released the back image to the recent Choons Awards compilation CDs which feature 'I Am Glam' alongside other acts like Transient Vortex, Mr Fluff, Ganjaguru, Backslash, DJ Sundae and more. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy.
Yeayness! (edit) : All selected tracks were compiled by Take Off Records and mastered by Branwen Somatik. A launch party will be held on Oct 10th @ Raw - get invites via the choons awards website.
I couldn't stand the sight of this guy when he first broke into the scene - but at the time, everybody was all over him. And now the more hate Kanye brings upon himself, the more I like him. I wonder, if ever, when people will get that it is all purely a show and he is the king of media manipulation. Like, as if MTV hasn't figured out how many security officers they should have around him by now? And i think Swift should learn how to be a little biatch - cause a little biatch would've told Kanye to fuck off and beat him up with the award in hand. Of course what he did was 'not cool' but which incident has ultimately become the highlight of the event? Certainly not video of the year.
I foresee my washing machine looking like it could throw its hands up in the air. Designed by Nelly Rodi for LG, I would buy it (at £599, that is)regardless of whether or not it's capable of cleaning any of my undies.
You and me Had some history Had a semblance of honesty All that has changed now We shared words Only lovers speak How can it be We are less than strangers
Oh it hurts to lose in love Let anger and cruelty win Its unfair that you doubt your feelings And that you'll ever love again I know that hearts can change Like the seasons and the wind But when I said forever I thought that we'd always be friends
I thought I saw you yesterday I thought I passed you on the street I swear I saw your face I was not imagining That you stole a glance my way You walked away from me My heart it may be broken But my eyes are dry to see
Starring one of my fave actors, robert downey jr, who plays Steve Lopez and jamie foxx as nathaniel ayers. A true story based on the book by Lopez about a homeless schizo musician who refuses to be helped. Lovely movie, and such is life that nothing turns out perfect but then again a perfect life is subjective. Not all exceptionally talented musicians were meant to be performers - the same way not all performers are neccessarily talented musicians. And seeing life from a homeless person's point of view, never would think that they actually take pride in living on the streets. That they actually have a choice to live in but most CHOOSE to live out - is this really so? I recall bits of seeing this in LA when i was younger, they seemed to be decent people most of them except they're all living in boxes. The touchy part for me was when Ayers puts his instrument away in his shopping cart, arranges his sleeping place amongst roaming roaches and rats, rests his head on a smelly looking pillow and says quietly, 'I hope you sleep well, Mr Lopez, I hope the world sleeps well' and dozes away.
4 years ago, i called myself Saer Ze and was obsessed with rainbows, stars, wands, and wigs. It might have been the fact that I had a nice boyfriend and did not see the point of obsessing over boys then. Looking back at the pictures of my debut album launch, I suppose there couldn't have been a more appropriate name for the album. It sure has been a long journey from the day of the launch now and so much of my music and image has changed! I'm very excited about my new baby coming along and nothing's better than looking back at the faces that have always been there through it all to support me.
You guys rock socks.
p/s: Saer Ze still remains as my songwriter pseudonym.
i've always thought fashion designers were very cool, if not the coolest. Except i've recently begun to realize that this isn't always true and maybe only applies to the designers i happen to look up to. Or perhaps i have the wrong definition of 'cool'. Anyhoo, I noticed this when i was at berlin's bread & butter in July where I was so excited to visit the tradeshow and be amongst designers and fashion-y people and some of my friends were put off by them because they were, well, all fashion-y. I was quite surprised to find how irritated they were by these people and i thought ' so in that case, you guys find me annoying as well?'. It was up until when we went to this fashion-y party later that night where only the fashion-y people were being invited - it struck me as to how boring designers can actually be. My friends already getting annoyed from the moment we stepped in the door by everybody in there; young designers all in black or other colours that blend in with the furniture, sitting down enjoying their drinks and staring into space with expensive drinks in their hands - supposedly looking very 'chic', all of them. This in a lay low setting, cheap couches and a good electro dj spinning in the corner. Am i amongst zombies? What's a party if not to burn the dancefloor, people? They seem like they were all too artsy to actually be moved by music which makes complete sense. Not. So I guess wacky designers I love like Betsey Johnson are the absolute rare ones - which is probably what would make me kill for her designs. Ain't saying that they should go away, because it's with the existence of designers like these that make the ones that are truly different stand out. I mean, i'm sure there are loads of people who love zombie clothing - they'd be the ones 'looking good' by the bar and never be seen burning the dancefloors like they should.
Now, it's not everyday that i get this excited over a book. I rarely buy my books and would normally rent them from a book store near our boutique - but i'm afraid i'm not gonna be returning this one. Ever. Especially not after all my highlighting and doodling artwork in it.
Anyway, this book 'Maximum Achievement' (as corny as it may sound) is absolute genius in my opinion as it answers to just about everything I might need right now to get my head in the right place. Best of all is it's all psychological, no running around the bush, all you need to really get yourself on track with your career, your businesses, your relationships and your life in general. Released more than a decade ago, I am glad to discover its writer Brian Tracy is still alive and running his own website.
This is 'the secret' minus the bollocks - a must must must read!
"She comes with a style so unique and of her own – a mixture of glam, glitter, some pop combined with disco and rock! I’d have to say she’s Madonna mixed with Courtney Love – added drops of Santogold!" - MoGeezie
